Tom Letbetter joined Max Garrett right out of law school in 1964. George Payne joined Tom and Max in 1970 right out of law school after working as a briefing attorney for the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston. Tom has been a designated legal counsel for the United Transportation Union since 1992. Tom has 166 jury verdicts with 72 verdicts coming against railroads in F.E.L.A. cases. After many years of faithful service to our clients, our friend and mentor, Max, is now retired.
Tom and George PERSONALLY handle all of the case interviews, consultations, investigations, supervision, pleadings, discovery, depositions and trials themselves for every case they take. They do not hire paralegals, assistants or lawyers unfamiliar with railroads and railroad work to do the work that experienced F.E.L.A. attorneys are trained to do. They do not seek cases involving the representation of large numbers of clients whose damages and injuries should be fully and fairly evaluated on an individual case basis. They are committed to each client as an individual who deserves individual representation.
Tom is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law in Texas and George is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law in Texas. Tom was one of the first lawyers elected to the Houston chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Members of that organization are selected from experienced and well respected plaintiff’s and defense trial lawyers.
